KERIN O'KEEFE 96 POINTS - "The Pieropan Soave Classico Calvarino is always one of the best whites not just in the denomination but in all of Italy, and the 2023 is no exception. Made with organically farmed grapes – 70% Garganega and 30% Trebbiano cultivated in volcanic soils - and fermented and aged in tulip-shaped concrete tanks, it opens with aromas of white spring wildflower, citrus, wet flint, Alpine herb and stone fruit. It’s dry and delicious, delivering pear, Myer lemon, dried herb and smoky mineral notes before closing on a saline tang. The advanced age of the vines, 30-60 years old, lends great depth while fresh acidity keeps it balanced and lends serious aging potential. Drink through 2038."
This lovely white has an amazing "wow" factor that explains the stellar scores it received. The depth and purity of ripe fruit in both mouth and nose is stunning, while the structure of body keeps the wine light and spry in the mouth. We, doing our due diligence to make sure these wine critics aren't pulling a fast one, of course had to open a bottle and take our own notes. They called it correctly! This is a white wine we will enjoy year-round but its freshness, vibrance and amazing fruits pair perfectly with Spring and Easter dining (ham, chicken/poultry, sushi, vegetarian, white pizzas, etc.).
