Owner/winemaker Ian Brand makes single vineyard, old vine bottles from some of California's most exceptional and historic vineyards. And in addition, he makes "village" inspired wines from the Central Coast that over-deliver for their respective price points.

He sourced Cabernet Sauvignon from two vineyards; the 60-year-old Brigantino Vineyard originally planted for Almaden, and the 45-year-old Wheeler Ranch growing in calcareous alluvial deposits over the San Benito Arroyo. All of the Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards are either practicing organic, certified organic, or in the process of converting to organic farming. Ian adds 5% Petite Verdot from a nearby vineyard for a little heft. All vineyards experience warm days and cold nights, typical of the Central Coast, allowing these late-ripening Bordeaux varieties to be picked at high acidity and this is a Cabernet Sauvignon off old vineyards, planted with old massale/clonal selections on old-school rootstocks (St. George and AXR-1) made in a style reflective of the classic California cabernets of the 1970's.

JEB DUNNUCK 92 POINTS - "The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Paysan Old Vines comes from two old vineyards planted in the 1960s and 1970s on AXR-1 and St. George rootstocks. The result is classic California style, steeped in redcurrant, leather, and black pepper, that displays an impressive marriage of great concentration with great acidity. It’s highly food friendly, with integrated oak and grippy but manageable tannins. Enjoy another 8-10 years."
