We've followed Tony Biagi and his winemaking talents for several years, from his times at Duckhorn and Paraduxx, to his more recent stays at Plumpjack, Cade, Hourglass and Sinegal. However, we are now proud to have his own Patria wines here at the store! Between the pedigree behind the wine and the quality of what is in the bottle, this label is poised to be on the radar of collectors and savvy connoisseurs alike. While we also carry the Patria Cabernet Sauvignon, Tony's "Avoyelles" bottling is a take on Cabernet Franc, a grape used in some of the best red wines in the world, such as Cheval Blanc from Bordeaux, or Dalla Valle's Maya from Napa.
JEB DUNNUCK 96 POINTS - "The 2022 Avoyelles Oakville checks in as 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 47% Cabernet Franc, and the balanced Petit Verdot that was brought up in new barrel. It has a stunning nose of ripe currants, blackberries, iron, graphite, new leather, and violets. A complete, balanced, medium to full-bodied 2022, it has the ripe, seamless, open style of the vintage, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's beautiful today and should be one of the longer lived 2022s, with a solid 15-20 years of overall longevity."
ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 95 POINTS - "A partnership between winemaker Tony Biagi and wine broker-distributor Kimberly Jones, Patria releases approximately 1,000 cases of wine each year, with an emphasis on Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Still somewhat under the radar, prices represent relative values, with a blended Cabernet Sauvignon, The Monarch, that retails for less than $100. There's also a Cabernet Franc from Oakville Ranch for $95. Two single-vineyard Cabs—one from Oakville Ranch and one from the little-known A. Price Vineyard—retail for $125, while there's also a luxury blend of Cab Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon (Avoyelles), which sells for $175. These are excellent wines that represent consistent values in the overheated Napa crucible.
"The 2022 Avoyelles Oakville Ranch—a blend of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 100% new French oak—boasts enticing floral accents to its black cherry fruit. It's full-bodied but somehow light on its feet, finishing with silky, fine-grained tannins and hints of licorice. 200 cases produced."
