It has been many years since we featured a sparkling wine as our Wine of the Month but this Toso Brut could not be denied! 100% Chardonnay, this is a dry, clean sparkler with excellent fruit flavors and scents (mixed tropical fruits, Bosc pear, green apple, citrus) that are kept bright with forward but appropriate acidity. The price is as easy on the wallet as the bubbles are delicious on the palate (and very tight, compact bubbles to boot!). This is made from 100% estate fruit and hails from one of Argentina's oldest wineries-- and they are famiy owned. This is delicious on its own and will also play well in mimosas or sparkling wine cocktails and will help keep the summer cool.
Founded in 1890, Pascual Toso is one of Argentina's oldest wineries, located in the Maipú district of Mendoza. The winery farms more than 1,000 acres of estate vineyards in Las Barrancas, an elevated site at approximately 2,500 feet with stony, alluvial soils ideal for producing structured, expressive wines.
WINERY NOTES: This sparkling wine is bright and clear with a touch of pale yellow. The aroma displays a bouquet of perfectly balanced yeasts with the Chardonnay used for this wine. Over time, Toso Brut evolves and gains complexity in the bottle. The aroma is complemented by the flavor and has a gentle, soft, fresh taste which makes it enjoyable to drink.
JAMES SUCKLING 90 POINTS - "This sparkling Chardonnay is bright and fresh and crisp with attractive lemon and dried-pear aromas and a rather juicy, very clean finish. Drink now."
TASTING PANEL 90 POINTS - "Pale yellow color, light-bodied wine made with Chardonnay grapes. Stone fruit flavors of pear, peach, and apricot shine through along with tropical notes of green melon and banana. There are also hints of lemon zest, green apple, elderflower, and biscuit. The wine has small bubbles and a mild herbaceous quality."
