The well-known Magrez family makes several wines including one of our most popular, the excellent Chateau Fombrauge from Saint Emilion. Pape Clement is similar in style, but dials up the intensity with this incredible, concentrated and lush wine.

Château Pape Clément, founded in 1300 is one of Bordeaux's oldest continuously producing estates. In 1959, when Graves underwent its official classification, Pape Clément was recognized as a Grand Cru Classé de Graves, placing it among the very finest estates of the region. Today, under Bernard Magrez's stewardship, the château combines centuries of history with modern precision and innovation. The estate has also embraced sustainable and biodynamic farming practices, reinforcing its commitment to both excellence and the environment.

The vineyards sit on gravelly, clay, and limestone soils, offering excellent drainage and complexity. This terroir, ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, produces wines of both power and finesse. The Grand Vin is vinified parcel by parcel with meticulous precision and aged for 18 months in French oak barrels achieving depth, elegance, and complexity while preserving the vibrancy of the fruit.

The 2016 vintage ranks among the very best of the past several decades. Warm, dry conditions, followed by perfect harvest weather, produced wines of remarkable concentration, freshness, and balance. At Pape Clément, the vintage yielded a wine that is rich, opulent, approachable and polished, with the ability to age as well.

At $98.95, this is a rare opportunity to secure a Grand Cru Classé from one of Bordeaux's greatest vintages at the best price in the nation. Enjoy!

JAMES SUCKLING 98 POINTS - "Stunning concentration of perfectly ripe blackcurrants here with a delicate whiff of vanilla oak and extremely fine tannins that are almost perfectly integrated on the seductive and delicate palate, right through the almost literally breathtaking, super-long and very polished finish."

"This is phenomenal with a density and finesse that are hard to remember for this wine. Full-bodied, tight and polished. Seamless texture and salty undertones. Goes on for minutes. Truly great.".

JEB DUNNUCK 97 POINTS - "Tasted on two separate occasions, the 2016 Château Pape Clément never failed to impress, offering a huge, powerful, full-bodied personality as well as beautiful notes of cassis, graphite, high-class cigar tobacco, asphalt, and graphite. About as sexy as it gets in the vintage, with silky tannins and loads of fruit, it's perfectly balanced and has a great finish."
