PAGO DE SAN GABRIEL 2005 ZUBIOLA

A phenomenally rich wine with notes of currant and blackberry, tobacco and truffles. The beautiful, inky color suggests its powerful and concentrated, full-bodied nature. Deep layers of fruit are balanced by smooth tannins and acidity, given elegance by 11 months aging in new French and Russian oak barrels. Touches of vanilla and cassis emerge in a long and silky finish.“Inky ruby. Intriguing perfume of dark berries, cherry-cola and vanillin oak spice. Sweet on entry, leading with fresh blackberry and candied plum flavors, but the oak takes a bitter turn in the middle. There's good fruit here but I find the oak pretty strident right now.”
