Ovid Vineyards is one of the true new "cult kids on the street". Each year, from small lots of fruit grown in the red rocky soil of Ovid's vineyard on Pritchard Hill, winemaker Austin Petersen chooses the very best barrels and blends them together to create the new vintage of OVID NAPA VALLEY. The vineyard’s evolution fascinates with each succeeding vintage, new dimensions of the wines are revealed. OVID is a blend of the four Bordeaux varietals grown on their property on Pritchard Hill: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot & Petit Verdot, varying in proportion from year to year but always eloquently conveying this special place.
ANTONIO GALLONI 96 POINTS - "One of the highlights among the early vintages, the 2008 Ovid is the first wine in this tasting that is complete in its balance of aromatics, fruit, acidity and tannin. New oak also appears better judged here than in the first releases. Blackberry jam, spice, exotic spices, black cherry, menthol, licorice and lavender are all nicely delineated throughout, with hints of crème de cassis and crushed rocks that add freshness as the wine starts to open up in the glass."
