Vega Sindoa, El Chaparral is from one of our favorite importers, Jorge Ordoñez, and is a 100% Garnacha (Grenache) wine that highlights how much flavor and terroir you can get from Spain at a way-better-than-normal price! The grapes for El Chaparral come from proprietary vineyards planted in the Valley of Valdizarbe, one of Navarra’s most historical viticultural areas in Northern Spain. The vines were planted between 1890 and 1960.
Our notes: The nose is filled with red fruits (peppered plums, cherries and strawberries, oh my!), hillside scrub brush and wildflowers, white pepper and light minerality. The red fruits are reiterated on the palate with red berries and plum and kept balanced by outstanding structure: firm tannins and bright acidity. Savory elements grow in the mid-palate and finish, as scrub oak, brown spices and more minerality lead to hints of citrus and sea salt, all amidst the plums and berries.
