ORGANICALLY FARMED
100% Merseguera

This is one of the up-and-coming great varieties (and wineries) in Spain. With a medium weight, it displays a rich texture akin to Viognier, along with a similar, moderately expressive floral and fruit display, like rose and stone fruits (ripe nectarine, peach). Along with that is a well-meshed cedar spice and bright, firm acidity that gives form to the moderately rich mid-palate. Finishes in a clean, tapered fashion, encouraging another sip.

WINE ADVOCATE 93 POINTS - "...fermented in 225- and 500-liter acacia barrels and matured in the 500-liter barrels for four months, followed by seven months in small stainless steel vats. It has 13.5% alcohol and a low pH of 3.28. They are conducting soil studies and removed part of the vineyards (and reduced volume), and the wine has gained in elegance and precision despite the character of the year. They also reduced the time in oak, and it's very noticeable. This is a step up from 2021. 19,463 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2023."

Pair with seafood rice dishes (Valencia is home to paella) and Mediterranean bean salads (go light on vinegar or use lemon), roasted/grilled chicken, fatty fish, and soft cheeses (even a little bleu). Vegan.

The Finca Calvastra vineyard is a tiny plot at 900 meters altitude, with 100+ year old vines comingled with ancient olive trees. The Merseguera, which favors the slow ripening conditions at high altitude is one of very few plots and the only single vineyard of this almost extinct variety. The wine is aged 4 months in French oak as well as acacia wood barrels.”
