#2 on Hi-Time's Top Spanish Wines of 2025

A wine that's more about intensity and finesse than overt concentration and power, this shows off the distinctive brilliance of Priorat. This isolated little region southwest of Barcelona came back to life in the 1980s when five winemaking friends launched estates from the core of Priorat's old vineyards, surrounded by the Montsant mountains. Mas Martinet was one of them, and their Clos Martinet bottling represents the original vineyard and the classic style, with minimal - but very thoughtful - intervention.

Clos Martinet is driven by Garnacha Tinta and cousin Garnacha Peluda, it's accompanied by Syrah, Carinyena and a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon. For the 2021 vintage, they fermented with mostly whole berries in concrete vessels and large, neutral oak barrels. That kept the richness of the Clos Martinet bottling in check, allowing a focus on the natural intensity from Priorat's distinctive landscape. Along with Garnacha's plush texture, it's infused with a palate-cleansing structure of fresh - almost citrusy - acidity and the famous mineral sensations of the region. While medium-bodied and lithe on the palate, its aromas are ripe and generous, with baked red fruits, cacao, rose, tea leaf, pepper and citrus peel. Fantastic with duck and plum sauce, tomatoey pastas and roasted, spiced eggplant. Practices organic and biodynamic farming.

WINE ADVOCATE 98 POINTS - "The nose of the 2021 Clos Martinet is amazing, very different, perfumed, elegant and nuanced... It has 13.5% alcohol and a vibrant palate that is fine-boned... full of energy and an electric sensation of lightness. It's tasty and makes you salivate, with an almost salty touch. This is an amazing vintage for Clos Martinet..."
