Montepulciano & Cesanese
Named for the volcanic rock tuff soil (not the same as tuffeau or tufa, which are limestone and calcareous deposits from evaporated water), Tuffalicco is a hill vineyard in the district of Capo Le Mole. From a blend of Montepulciano and Lazio's own Cesanese, this fresh, tangy red offers up bright, delicious flavors of red cherry and wild raspberry, supported by a lovely note of violets, satisfying vinosity, and a hint of attractive smokiness rare in an unoaked wine. Incredibly satisfying and a remarkable value for a wine of this kind.
