Maury is a growing region in the Roussillon region of the south of France specializing in strong, sweet fortified wines made from late-harvested Grenache. This is a sweet wine, but to put it in the same sweetness league as a Royal Tokaji or an Ice wine would be like putting a rookie in to guard LeBron James. They might be in the same business, but just at different levels. Rich blackberry and blueberry fruit gives it a big mouthfeel and an idea of sweetness. Mild tannins in the mid-palate really lets the fruit take it to another level, giving it just a bit more sweetness on the finish.
