The Macallan Lead Whisky Maker, Euan Kennedy, and the Roca brothers, owners of El Celler de Can Roca, went in search of the essence of the global city that has managed to re-imagine the possibilities of the public space, mixing ancient tradition with startling modernity. Their deep dive into the heartbeat of this ever-evolving metropolis sparks the genesis of a truly exceptional whisky and a culinary adventure. The whisky is inspired by the journey of Euan Kennedy, The Macallan Lead Whisky Maker, who has translated it into a unique whisky that captures the energy and complexity of the city. The menu draws inspiration from Joan Roca's immersion in the dynamic, cosmopolitan essence of Hong Kong, a city in perpetual evolution. This is a deeply personal whisky, inspired by my time with Joan Roca exploring Hong Kong. It is big and bold. I wanted to develop the idea of structure in this whisky, reflective of the building environment rising from the sea to the green peaks behind. To create contrast within this whisky, in the same way Hong Kong is a city of contrast. A whisky with many layers, to be returned to again and again to find more stories to tell, its incredible complexity transporting you on a journey of flavour and memory. Euan Kennedy Whisky Mastery Lead Gastronomy Experience The documentary captures the journey that has inspired The Macallan Lead Whisky Maker, Euan Kennedy, and the Roca brothers, owners of El Celler de Can Roca to translate the spirit of Hong Kong into an extraordinary single malt and a culinary exploration. In their creations, the Roca brothers artfully mirror the urban landscape of Hong Kong: the towering skyscrapers, the resolute strength, the vibrant hues, and the pulsating energy—all manifest in every meticulously crafted dish. The Art The vibrant royal blue was chosen as it reflects the blue waters that surround Hong Kong. The beautifully detailed art print by Flyingpig includes elements of nature and community spirit, values which are instilled within The Macallan. Pat WingShan Wong (aka Flyingpig) is the assistant professor in the Academy of Visual Art, Hong Kong Baptist University (BUAVA). Her practice lies in the intersections of architecture, technology, memory and identity that portray community stories ranging from people to landscapes and objects from her surroundings.
