In 1996, Neil Collins was the assistant winemaker at Adelaida Cellars and was inspired to create a label after working with a standout Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the Carver Vineyard. This wine, deserving of its own spotlight, led to the creation of Lone Madrone, named after the single Madrone tree that overlooks the vineyard. As Neil's reputation grew, he was hired as the winemaker at Tablas Creek Winery in 1998, where he still works today and became a key figure in the Paso Robles winemaking community.
Lone Madrone's estate vineyard, along with most of their grower partners, are farmed organically. In addition, most are dry-farmed, producing wines that express intense character, concentration, and a strong sense of place. The westside of Paso Robles is synonymous with red Rhone varietals and Lone Madrone's wines emphasize the rugged, diverse terroir of this area, showcasing the region's limestone soils and coastal influences.
ANTONIO GALLONI'S VINOUS MEDIA 93 POINTS - "The 2023 White Points West is delicate and floral, with hints of chamomile and white flowers complementing lime-laced yellow apples. This is deeply textural, with glycerol waves of ripe pit fruits that swirl beneath an air of honeyed inner spice. Tantalizing acidity maintains a fantastic balance as the 2023 finishes with admirable length. Hints of tropical citrus add a sour note that calls the taster back to the glass for more. Simply stunning, the White Points West is a blend of 44% Grenache Blanc, 38% Viognier, 11% Roussanne and 7% Marsanne."
