Growing up on Long Island, Marcus wasn’t exposed to wine at an early age, but after making his Major League debut with the Toronto Blue Jays in 2014, he was introduced to the world of wine by veteran teammates who would regularly share inspiring bottles. As one of the most entrepreneurial professional athletes of his generation, Marcus knew he wanted to one step beyond collecting wine, and knew he wanted to produce his own wine.
Marcus has teamed up with esteemed Winemaker Matt Naumann of Newfound Wines to create restrained, Old World-inspired wines, focusing on selecting the very best sites in Northern California, and using a soft approach to the winemaking in the cellar.
An ode to the great wines of early California that helped put the New World on the map, this inaugural Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Bellissimo Vineyard nestled in a small valley in the shadow of Mount St. Helena in Northern Sonoma County. This wine, which represents Le Carenage’s only bottling from Sonoma County, highlights an elegant, balanced style of Cabernet, expressing bright red and blue fruits, a backbone of fine acidity, and is a great pairing for a summer barbecue and meat fresh off the grill.
