Established in Tours-sur-Marne in 1812, Laurent-Perrier is a terrific family-owned and independent Champagne House that has long played a pioneering and innovative role in the region through its commitment to sustainable viticulture in the vineyards and through each of its Cuvées. Their always reliable, multi-vintage Brut is the house's keystone cuvée and it accounts for over 60% of Laurent-Perrier's production. Long known as L-P Brut, the moniker was changed to La Cuvée a few years ago. This action was more a marketing rebranding as the blend was upgraded by increasing the Chardonnay component from 45% to 55% while decreasing the Meunier content down to just 10%. The proportion of Grand Cru and Premier Cru sourced fruit was also raised significantly. Additionally, this bottling sees four years of patient lees aging which contributes a silken depth as well as spicy autolytic inflections that envelope the Champagne's pristine Chardonnay flavors. A moderate (8 grams per liter) dosage rounds things out nicely making this a crowd-pleasing and eminently versatile Champagne.
Not surprisingly, during the recent Holiday Season, La Cuvée was once again a top-seller for us at our competitive $62.99 selling price. Now, thanks to a fortuitous "one-time only" pallet buy, we are able to slash that tariff and offer this prestigious "Champagne for all seasons and reasons" for under fifty dollars-- while supplies last.
JAMES SUCKLING 93 POINTS - "This is lovely, the aromas and flavors run long into the finish with notes of light butter biscuits, subtle cooked apples and peaches. It's full yet balanced and long. Lovely texture. Lots of flavor and polished textured bubbles."
WINE SPECTATOR 92 POINTS - "Elegant & finely knit, this vibrant Champagne is framed by racy acidity that enlivens the flavors of ripe boysenberry, lemon zest, brioche & chopped hazelnut. Spice & chalk notes linger on the finish."
