The Lapostolle winery is located in the town of Cunaco, near Santa Cruz, where it was founded in 1994. We have featured the wines of Lapostolle many, many times over the years and it looks like this trend will continue: they make great wines that fully express the soul of their terroir (and at very fair prices!). We appreciate that the family has maintained the same absolute commitment to quality that has characterized its history and brought about much success. Their goal is as simple as it is ambitious: to create world-class wines using French expertise and Chile's magnificent terroirs.
APALTA VINEYARD
Apalta is not an enclosed valley. It is lodged between the Tinguiririca River, a tributary of the Rapel River, and cordons of the Coastal Cordillera that ends in a "horse shoe" shape. Both form on the east and west a barrier that delays the arrival of the sun in the morning and attenuates the exposure to the sunlight in the evening. That position permits a good regulation of the sunshine, escaping the excess heat that is well known in hot climates. Thanks to the hills that surround the vineyard, the old vines located in the lowest part of the field receive underground water that provides sufficient natural water supply during almost the whole growing season.
Apalta vineyard was planted with Carmenère, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Syrah from 1920 to 2006. Some of the oldest blocks planted in 1920, have vines that were brought from France at the end of the 19th century.
JAMES SUCKLING 92 POINTS - "A touch of graphite to the fresh black cherries, plums, subtle spices and olives. Fruity and medium-to full-bodied with fresh, fine-grained tannins and a crunchy finish. Solid, medium-long finish."
VINOUS 91 POINTS - "The 2022 Apalta is a Cabernet Sauvignon-based red blend sourced from the Apalta vineyard. Dark garnet in color, it features aromas of blackberry, balsamic and a faint touch of marmalade. Indulgent, rich and bold, the 2022 flows with an overwhelming palate, grippy tannins and a ripe, lasting finish—the ABCs of the Apalta style.
