The long, 3-year aging in large French oak casks barely tames the power of the wine, a hallmark of the southeastern Castelnuovo dell'Abate area (where favorites like Uccelliera and Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona are). It's tightly packed with a swirling combination of Marasca cherry cordial, mixed berries, forest underbrush and flowers, warming woody herbs (like camphor or thyme), and a finish with classic, mouthwatering accents of licorice and blood orange. Sangiovese's classic earthiness comes through subtly like a dusty crushed stoniness throughout, complemented by a finely-knit, soft-grained grip on the generous finish.
