Koloa Dark is an award-winning, Hawaiian rum made in the ‘black-strap’ style at the first distillery on the island of Kauai. Basically, ‘black strap’ is a blend of rum and molasses and Koloa uses the highest quality of each. The rum is made from raw sugar from the Gay and Robinson plantation (the last one on the island), crafted and distilled in small batches in a vintage copper pot still. The aromas show young rum, molasses, vanilla, baked dark fruits and caramel. The flavors follow the aromas adding a touch of toffee and dainty spice. The finish shows the drying spice and young rum with coffee notes and molasses lingering. This rum is simple and sweet, great for punches, in coffee or floated on top of a boat drink.
