Legend has it, 900 years ago, a family built a golden capital in the northeastern part of Japan. For 100 years, life was good. until the government destroyed their gleaming city. Surviving this were 36 Samurai and one Princess. They escaped to seaside city of Sakata in Yamagata Prefecture. Descendants of the 36 Samurai established trade in this seaside town, which became one of the biggest ports in Japan in the latter half of the 17th Century. This Sake from Yamagata honors their achievement. This dry and earthy Sake is rich, savory, robust and slightly earthy on the palate with notes of apple, saffron, melon, passionfruit and plum.
