Winery's Notes: "Solitaire hails from the Truchard Vineyard in Carneros, which is located in South Napa spanning a rare stretch of 500 acres purchased by Tony and Jo Ann Truchard nearly 50 years ago from a hermit who lived on the property in a trailer. This is a charming expanse of vineyard, planted with many head-trained and old vines, and an old world sensibility. We are lucky to count Anthony and Suzanne Truchard among our closest friends, and to be able to work with this family vineyard. Our block of Syrah is located near the top of the vineyard, on a north-facing, rocky volcanic slope. The vines are over 40 years old, planted with the well-loved heritage Estrella clone of Syrah. This is a singular place, making wines of incredible elegance and character."
JEB DUNNUCK 95 POINTS - "From a north-facing site of very old vines in Carneros, the 2022 Syrah Solitaire Truchard Vineyard is 100% Syrah raised in 40% new larger format barrels. Classic Côte Rôtie-like notes of red and black berries, spring flowers, bacon fat, and violets all define the aromatics, and its round, supple, and silky on the palate, with tons of charm and character. It's a hidden gem in the vintage that will keep for a decade, although I love it today."
ANTONIO GALLONI 94 POINTS - "The 2022 Solitaire is 100% Estrella Clone Syrah from old vines. Dark and ample, the 2022 possesses notable textural depth and overall presence, Black olive, scorched earth, clove, licorice and incense add to an impression of gravitas. The 2022 packs a pretty serious punch but naturally offers a little less heft than usual this year."
