Winery's Notes: "Bien Nacido has long been on my short list of revered vineyards, ever since I made wine in Santa Barbara 20 years ago. When the 2020 wildfires took us south to Santa Barbara for fruit not impacted by smoke, we had the opportunity to work with this fabulous vineyard, thanks to the kindness of Maggie Harrison. We were reunited with our friend Chris Hammell, who was the (incredible) vineyard manager, and provided a close connection to our fruit, even though we were miles away. Two years later in 2022, we were offered a block very dear to Chris, that he had planted for his own label. This block of Grenache blew my mind, and transported me back to my years making wine in Priorat, Spain. This unique block sits back in the mouth of the canyon that is next to Bien Nacido Vineyard, an elevated sandy bench, with a south west aspect and the ideal mix of warm sun and cool wind. Head-trainted bush vines planted to a Spanish Grenache clone that is farmed with admirable TLC."
JEB DUNNUCK 94 POINTS - "Perfumed red and black fruits, peppery herbs, incense, and violet notes all emerge from the 2022 Grenache Opalus, a beautifully textured, perfumed, floral, elegant Grenache. It's drinking nicely today yet has a solid 8-10 years or so of longevity."
