It is a blend of 90% Riesling and 10% Pinot Blanc, picked on the Karthauserhofberg itself as well as in the villages of Mertesdorf and Waldrach. The base wines were partially fermented in wood and stainless steel and the wine spent 3.5 years on lees. A lovely sense of peach and apricot on the nose is bedded on moist Genoese sponge. A moment later, citrus peel, lime and tangerine cut in. Fine mousse is immensely sprightly; it will be calmer with just a few more months of post-disgorgement age. The body is slender, taut but also tender, again with that charming peach and sponge cake note and real verve. A taut, bright Sekt with a superbly clean finish and much class.
