This special edition bottling is part of Bodegas Juan Gil's 110th Anniversary celebration, available for a limited time only! It's a pure Monastrell, which is the traditional variety in the hot Mediterranean region of Jumilla. Classic for the grape and place, it's full-bodied with vinous warmth, and a generous mouthfeel that combines sunny juiciness with a glycerol sheen. It maintains composure, though, with a relatively compact and fluid drive that makes it delicious to drink, with an infusion of ripely soft, tea-like tannins and an inner tanginess.
Apart from its warm, balsam base, you can find a core of dark-red berry cordial, a floral violet sheen, subtle sun-kissed fig notes at the edges, a rich roasted character like coffee in the middle, and aromatic Mediterranean scrub throughout. The finish shows off this wine's classic Mediterranean Monastrell character with a balanced interplay of warming fruit cordial, mouthwatering tanginess, and amaro herbs. It's a big, expressive wine that's great for BBQ and spiced dishes from around the Mediterranean rim.
