We've got a treat for bold Spanish wine-lovers! 2026 is the Juan Gil family's 110th anniversary of bottling their own wine, and to commemorate it they've made a special one-time bottling. The "Hijos de Juan Gil Guerrero" bottling has a classically-styled label that stands apart from their modern lineup, and honors the family members who have successively led the wine company that was started by Juan Gil Guerrero. Many will recognize the Juan Gil name from their extremely popular Juan Gil Silver and Blue Label wines, as well as El Nido and Clio! Like these, their 110th Anniversary "Guerrero" bottling comes from the hot and sunny Mediterranean coastal region of Jumilla.
Made purely from the star native grape, Monastrell, this limited-edition wine comes from their high-elevation vineyards that are unirrigated and organically farmed. Classic for the grape and place, the wine is full-bodied, with vinous warmth and a generous mouthfeel that combines sunny juiciness with a glycerin sheen. It maintains its composure, though, with a deliciously compact and fluid flow that's infused with ripely soft, tea-like tannins and an inner tanginess. Above its warm, balsamic base, you can find a core of dark-red berry cordial accompanied by a rich roasted accent like coffee. Hovering over it all is a purple-flower sheen like violet and aromatic Mediterranean scrub, along with subtle sun-kissed fig notes at the edges. The finish shows off classic Mediterranean Monastrell character with a balanced interplay of warming fruit cordial, amaro herbs, and a mouthwatering cranberry tanginess. It's a big, expressive wine that's fantastic with BBQ, casseroles, meaty paella, spiced dishes from around the Mediterranean rim, and aged/or blue cheeses!
WINERY NOTES - “Our 110th-anniversary events are a celebration for the trade and consumers who have supported us for decades in addition to those new to the table,” said Philip Tardy, EVP U.S. “This special bottling represents the pinnacle of century-long expertise with native varieties like Monastrell, blending traditional knowledge with modern, sustainable winemaking practices. It is a rare opportunity for our trade partners to offer a piece of Spanish wine history.”
This special edition bottling is part of Bodegas Juan Gil's 110th Anniversary celebration, available for a limited time only! It's a pure Monastrell, which is the traditional variety in the hot Mediterranean region of Jumilla. Classic for the grape and place, it's full-bodied with vinous warmth, and a generous mouthfeel that combines sunny juiciness with a glycerol sheen. It maintains composure, though, with a relatively compact and fluid drive that makes it delicious to drink, with an infusion of ripely soft, tea-like tannins and an inner tanginess.
Apart from its warm, balsam base, you can find a core of dark-red berry cordial, a floral violet sheen, subtle sun-kissed fig notes at the edges, a rich roasted character like coffee in the middle, and aromatic Mediterranean scrub throughout. The finish shows off this wine's classic Mediterranean Monastrell character with a balanced interplay of warming fruit cordial, mouthwatering tanginess, and amaro herbs. It's a big, expressive wine that's great for BBQ and spiced dishes from around the Mediterranean rim.
