Each year, we take great thought in deciding which wine will be our Top Cabernet of the year... however, this year was an easy decision! Jayson Woodbridge is a winemaker with passion; such passion for making the best wine possible that he will quite literally do whatever it takes to achieve perfection. Thinning to one cluster per vine, installing misters as an "air conditioning" system for the vines, and training workers to pick berry-by-berry would be considered madness and fiscally irresponsible by some. But these are just some of the steps taken by Jayson to ensure nothing less than perfection. And he has succeeded, as his Hundred Acre Cabernets have received over 43 perfect 100-point scores from critics. There is a multi-year wait to buy these wines directly from the winery, but since we have supported his endeavors since the very first commercial vintage, we have received an allocation of this perfectly scored 100-point Napa Cabernet!
Jayson Woodbridge has three vineyards in the Napa Valley: Morgan's Way is in St. Helena near the base of Howell Mountain; Ark is also in St. Helena, but at the base of Glass Mountain; and Few and Far Between is in Calistoga. The Wraith bottling is a fusion of all three single vineyard estates, but it's not just three wines blended together, as that would be boring. This wine is comprised of barrels that show each vineyard's unique qualities of the vintage and site, and Wraith is singular to itself. WRAITH is all about the chance to experience the three incredible creatures (the Hundred Acre single vineyards) working together in symphony and perfect harmony to tell you about the vintage in all its glory. Aged for 40 months in the finest French oak barrique, the stave wood is hand-selected for ultra-tight grain, then air dried for three years before being made into barrels. This has earned a perfect 100-point score from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate!
