Almost 200 years of family history leave their mark—especially when that history revolves around whisky. This is precisely the case with the Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown. Since its founding in 1828, the distillery has remained family-owned and is currently managed by Hedley G. Wright - a direct descendant of the founding Mitchell family - representing the fifth generation at the helm. A great deal of tradition, then - and evidently a distinct talent for preserving what has stood the test of time.

Campbeltown itself boasts an even longer history of whisky making. Whisky production here was first documented as early as 1591. Later, the small town on the Kintyre Peninsula evolved into the whisky capital of the world. Today, only a few distilleries remain, meaning each one preserves a piece of this unique history. Springbank is undoubtedly one of the most renowned representatives of this region steeped in tradition.

The Hazelburn 7 year old Oloroso Cask Matured is one of three whisky lines produced at Springbank. Its hallmarks are triple distillation and a complete absence of peat smoke. This gives Hazelburn a unique role within the range - acting, in a sense, as the elegant branch of the family that prefers understatement to making a loud statement.

This limited bottling was distilled in June 2018 before maturing in selected Oloroso sherry casks until March 2026. Only 9,000 bottles were produced worldwide. This makes it an edition that appeals not only to collectors but also to connoisseurs of traditional distilling craftsmanship.

At Springbank, manual craftsmanship is still a top priority - and not just on the label. To this day, a large part of the production process takes place right at the distillery. Naturally, the Hazelburn is bottled without chill filtration and without added coloring. The motto "The Work of Human Hands" is therefore not merely a marketing slogan, but a philosophy that has been lived out for generations. In other words: In Campbeltown, important tasks are left to people rather than machines.
