In April 2008, this rum was distilled in the historic, double-wooden pot still at the Diamond Distillery then shipped to the UK where it was aged in once-used bourbon barrels. It continued to mature in the UK until it was shipped to the US for bottling in 2021. Only 203 bottles of this single cask, twelve-year-old, Port Mourant rum were bottled as part of my Single Cask Strength Collection.
This rum was distilled the double wooden pot still that was originally put into service in the early 19th century on the Port Mourant Estate on the west bank of the Demerara River. Like the other wood stills at Diamond Estate it is made of greenheart wood, which is revered for its durability when exposed to elements such as moisture and heat, not to mention its resistance to rot and insects including termites.
