ORGANICALLY FARMED
VINOUS 92 POINTS - "Crushed violet mingles with lavender and a dusting of spice as the 2022 Nero d'Avola Nerojbleo slowly blossoms in the glass. The palate is round and supple, with ripe red and black fruits offset by savory herbal tones. Cooling acidity maintains a lovely balance. The 2022 tapers off with potent length yet remains fresh and pure, leaving nuances of wild blueberry and a subtle citrus twang." - Eric Guido
Gulfi's vines for this bottling are on the southeastern protrusion of the island near the town of Chiaramonte Gulfi, elevated above the coastal plain that faces Tunisia. Here, altitudes of around 420-450m above sea level, on weathered soils of sand and calcareous marls, there's a bit of relief from the heat and more protection from drought (on a landscape map you can see the transition from brown tones to greener ones along this strip of high hills).
An easy-drinking - but characterful - red, this goes with Mediterranean first courses, like those based on legumes and hearty grains, and can handle flavorful combinations of herbs and spices. Try it with baked eggplant parmigiana (but use an Italian recipe)!
