Some of the most unlikely collaborations are the best. And Brainville Rye Whiskey from Few Spirits and legendary Grammy-winning American rock band The Flaming Lips fits squarely into the unlikely category. Just like Few's award-winning rye, it's made using rye, corn and malted barley that is grown within 150 miles of the Few Distillery, then aged in new, charred American oak barrels. The whiskey is then packaged in the familiar rectangular Few bottles with a special psychedelic label by Justin Helton (a Knoxville, Tenn., artist who designs visuals for The Lips as well as bands like Phish, The Avett Brothers, My Morning Jacket, Ween and The Black Keys) that shows the influence of the Lips. They made 5,000 bottles in total so supply is limited.
"Whiskey...it's such a volatile drink," said Flaming Lips lead singer, Wayne Coyne. "Upon pouring a drink It’s like accepting that you may become a werewolf...And really...Who doesn't want to become a werewolf ??? Ha..." While there is no guarantee that this will turn you into a werewolf, the flavors and taste will certainly make you feel alive as lush, multi-nuanced layers of their localized rye, corn and malted barley, brought to life (alcohol-wise) via wine yeast, weave both spicy and sweet influences throughout the spirit.
