Helmut Donnhoff, who will turn 77 in September this year, said he could “barely remember such beautiful fruit,” and he is not a man given to overstatement. For the first time in his life, the entire harvest was picked within the month of September. He described good fruit set, but small berries and less juice in the grapes meant that 2025 yields remained below the long-term average. Selection at harvest also made some inroads, since none of the dry wines ever contain any botrytis. His son, Cornelius Donnhoff, said that while this was not their earliest start to the harvest, it was certainly the estate’s earliest finish. The wines are simply beautiful, luminous and so expressive of their sites, with real personality, beautiful Nahe backbone and such charming, generous fruit. What a stellar collection.
