Novicium completes the definition of a great estate. A wine fully grown, produced, and bottled from Continuum's Sage Mountain Vineyard. It is a balanced, nuanced, and age-worthy wine that demonstrates their constant pursuit to study and improve the art of winegrowing.
What began as a young-vine study in Novicium has evolved significantly as the Mondavi Family continually understands this gorgeous property. Novicium has grown into its own singular identity from this site, one that embraces the more classic expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from these distinctive volcanic soils of Continuum's Sage Mountain Vineyard.
A blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 10% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Merlot, the 2019 Novicium displays its predecessors’ signature approachability with a fresh and playful nose of red fruit and candied apple mixed with autumn leaves, bay laurel and the slightest hint of dewy spring peonies. A vibrant and direct wine, 2019 Novicium has a plush entry and weighted mid palate of dark chocolate, black fruit, brown spice and tapenade. A vintage character both friendly and powerful, with Sage Mountain Vineyard’s iron core and a brightly expressed structure and finish.
ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 92 POINTS - "The 2019 Novicium comes across as slightly darker-fruited than the impeccably balanced 2018, with a greater emphasis on black cherries and cassis and less on red fruit and delicate herbal nuances. Full-bodied and velvety in feel, it's a bigger, richer expression of this mountain vineyard, yet one that is also a touch warm and slightly coarse on the finish."
