"Clos Saint Jean is at the top of their game and producing some of the most singular, hedonistic and brilliant wines in the world" - Jeb Dunnuck

We just made a special purchase of the delicious, perfectly aged 2016 Clos Saint Jean Chateauneuf du Pape, which allows us to offer it at a fantastic price. Loaded with rich, ripe and juicy fruit, this Rhone blend is hard to put down. A search of other retailers shows this wine is available elsewhere for $69.99 and up, but we are able to offer this for under $45.00!

Rhone-loving critic Jeb Dunnuck gave this wine 93 Points calling it, "Full-bodied, ripe and undeniably sexy." This knockout is ready to drink and fans of bold, ripe and lushly palated wines will love this wine!

We are unabashed fans of the 2016 vintage in the Rhone Valley. The combination of deeply fruited wines combined with a fantastic freshness makes this one of the most desirable vintages in modern times. Clos Saint Jean makes several different cuvees which are worth your time, but the Tradition knocks it out of the park when it comes to bang for the buck!

Clos Saint-Jean is a 41-hectare estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape run by brothers Vincent and Pascal Maurel. Considered by many critics as one of the preeminent estates in Châteauneuf, this cellar is one of the oldest in the region founded in 1900 by the Maurel's great-great-grandfather, Edmund.

The vineyards of Clos Saint-Jean are located primarily in Le Crau. This plateau is perhaps the most iconic of the many terroirs of Châteauneuf-du-Pape - iron-rich red clays topped with galets. While about 60% of their vineyards are located here another 40% are found in alluvial clay and sandy soils adjacent to the plateau. They also own a small parcel of Mourvèdre near Château Rayas planted on sandy, limestone-rich soils.

The legendary Rhone consultant Philippe Cambie consulted on this wine. The farming at Clos Saint-Jean is fully sustainable due to the warm and dry climate, which helps keep the grapes clean and healthy. Instead, Vincent and Pascal employ organic methods for pest control. The vines are tended manually, and harvest is conducted in several passes entirely by hand.

Once harvested, the grapes arrive at the cellar in small bins. The reds are almost entirely destemmed, with about 10% whole clusters retained. Fermentation follows in concrete vats. The Grenache sees a gentle maceration and is aged in concrete. The Syrah and Mourvèdre are aged in barriques and demi-muids.

This wine delivers ready to drink, full-bodied, hedonistic pleasure in a glass and should not be missed! It is delicious now and will age gracefully for at least the next decade. We are thrilled to be able to offer it at the lowest price in the country!

JEB DUNNUCK 93 POINTS - "Moving to the reds and 85% Grenache and the rest Syrah and Mourvèdre, the base 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a beauty and boasts appealing notes of spiced red and black fruits, cedar, and garrigue. Full-bodied, ripe and undeniably sexy, it's going to benefit from a year or three in the cellar and drink nicely for over a decade."
