60% Garnacha 25% Carignan, 10% Syrah, & 5% Cabernet Sauvignon
This full-bodied Priorat has a dark-tone to the usual red fruited character, with a spiced accent with the help of a year in French oak, along with the classic mineral, Mediterranean scrubland character of the area. Thanks to thoughtful farming and winemaking, this wine is balanced enough that you might not guess it has a 15% abv.
"The red 2022 Font de la Figuera was produced with a blend of Garnacha, Cariñena, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah that fermented in 2,500-liter tanks and matured in 500-liter oak barrels for one year. It feels more harmonious and balanced than last year, despite being ripe and coming in at 15% alcohol. It has a touch of rusticity with dusty tannins..." - Luis Gutierrez, WINE ADVOCATE
In 1997, with his wife Charlotte, Christopher Cannan purchased Clos Figueras, an 18 hectares estate, just to the north of the village of Gratallops in the heart of the Priorat DOQ.
The Font de Figuera was fermented in stainless steel with daily punchdowns. Some of the Syrah was not destemmed. Extraction from skins takes place over 2-3 weeks. Aged for 1 year in 500L French oak barrels.
