The Godard family has been farming here since 1895, first bottling under their estate name in 2002. From the start, their goal was to farm everything naturally; they are Ecocert-Certified organic and integrate biodynamic principles, going far beyond the strictures of organics in order to provide a balanced, healthy ecosystem. They keep bees, use grazing animals, integrate cover crops, add natural teas as fertilizer, and use all ambient yeasts to ferment the wine.
The blend is 65% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec; everything is done by hand, all naturally, and zero new oak is used in the aging – it's vinified in steel and two-year-old barrels, then aged for one year before bottling.
