KERIN O'KEEFE 94 POINTS - "Leather, camphor, underbrush and spice aromas shape the nose along with a whiff of wild rose. Ripe and juicy, the enveloping palate offers dried cherry, black tea, tobacco and a hint of almond liqueur set against tightly knit, fine-grained tannins. Drink 2026–2032. We're happy to finally carry this small, but historic, producer of delicious Barbarescos from around the village of Barbaresco itself! The estate's history is entwined with that of the Barbaresco wine appellation: Carlo's father, Donato, was one of the founding members of the Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative of farmers in 1958. In 1967 the family decided to bottle their own wine instead of selling it to the cooperative, and it ultimately passed on to Carlo to bring it into the modern era. Today, his daughter, Maria Grazia runs things with her son, Luca, making this a fourth-generation estate!

This bottling from the famous Ovello vineyard was made with spontaneous fermentation, with a lengthy maceration of skins for 1-1/2 to 2 months, and then aged in 2000-4500L French oak barrels.
