People in the wine world always want to talk about the "new kid on the block" …but what needs to be remembered is there are a few of the "old guards" that will go toe-to-toe with those young guns and give them a run for their money! For decades, Beringer has been making phenomenal, world-class wines utilizing time-honored techniques that are still used today by virtually all the high-quality producers…even by those "young guns".

Beringer's flagship Cabernet has received many significant accolades, which includes being named #1 Wine of the Year for the 1986 Cabernet by Wine Spectator (1990 edition). Beringer's Private Reserve Cabernet highlights the body, fruit, complexity, and structure of this varietal and since its first vintage in 1977 has been one of the benchmark Cabernets. Just to give you an idea of the quality, let's take a look at the scores from noteworthy critic Jeb Dunnuck for the past few years:

2019 Vintage - 96 Points
2018 Vintage - 97 Points
2017 Vintage - 96 Points
2016 Vintage - 97+ Points
2015 Vintage - 97 Points
2014 Vintage - 96 Points

These are scores that most producers earn every so often…but not with this consistency. This is one of the reasons why Beringer's Private Reserve Cabernet is such in demand. How do they do it? Well, winemaker Mark Beringer pulls fruit from the best vineyards from Howell Mountain, St. Helena, Oakville, Spring Mountain, Diamont Mountain, and Mount Veeder. He vinifies each vineyard separately and ages the wine in hand selected, custom-toasted barrels of new French oak (80% new). Each lot was aged for 20 months before selection of the final blend, to allow each vineyard to express the depth of its unique terroir.

This wine is currently being sold at the winery for $175.00, but as we said earlier, we have been able to secure several cases at a very attractive price. So, until our existing stock runs out, we are able to offer this for $79.95, which is the lowest price we can find in the country…so grab this gem while you can!

ANTONIO GALLONI 97 POINTS - "The 2021 Private Reserve is the most refined of the 2021s from Beringer. The aromatics alone are so alluring. There's 12% Cabernet Franc in the blend this year, and that comes through loud and clear. Crushed flowers, espresso, mint, licorice and red/purplish fruit all grace this silky, super-polished offering."

JEB DUNNUCK 96+ POINTS - "The flagship from Beringer, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve is from a mix of sites and is based on 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot, 2% Malbec brought up all in barrel. Its deep ruby/plum hue is followed by rock-solid aromatics of darker currants, chocolate, leafy herbs, and lead pencil shavings. It's a classic 2021 on the palate and has a more inward, concentrated mouthfeel, ripe yet building tannins, ample mid-palate depth, and a great finish. It's holding things relatively close to its vest at the moment, yet it clearly has potential. Hide bottles for 4-5 years if you can, and it's going to have well over two decades of prime drinking."

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 95 POINTS - "A reliably high-quality wine year after year, Beringer's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve incorporates lots from across the single-vineyard range—Bancroft Ranch, Borrow Pit, Chabot, Home Ranch, Lampyridae and Steinhauer Ranch. Rich blueberry fruit is joined by cassis and black cherries, punched up by hints of sage and pine. It's full-bodied, concentrated and tannic, with a long, silky textured finish. This vintage, the blend is composed of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Cabernet Franc, 6% Merlot and 2% Malbec. Give it a few years in the cellar, and drink it over the next two decades."

WINE SPECTATOR 94 POINTS - "This is ripe and generous in feel, as the core of succulent boysenberry and blackberry compote sparkles with energy, throwing off additional anise, apple wood and sweet bay hints. There's a flash of iris on the finish, which is driven by racy acidity. Best from 2025 through 2040. 3,530 cases made."
