If you're looking for Left Bank Bordeaux class without the typical Left Bank price tag, the 2022 Aurore de Dauzac delivers in a big way. This is the second wine of Château Dauzac, a Classified Growth estate in the Margaux appellation and is crafted with the same precision and vineyard pedigree, but at a fraction of the price.
James Suckling gave this wine 94 Points and noted 2022 is "A year in which Dauzac excelled!" with "bright black fruit, berries" and described the palate as full-bodied and long. We loved this polished and expressive Margaux showing notes of blackcurrants, violets, and subtle spice.
Château Dauzac is one of Margaux's historic classified growths, dating back to the 17th century and recognized in the 1855 Classification. Today, the estate is known for combining traditional Bordeaux winemaking with cutting-edge vineyard practices, including sustainable and organic farming initiatives that have elevated quality in recent vintages.
Margaux is synonymous with elegance and aromatic complexity. Situated on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, it produces some of the most perfumed and refined Cabernet Sauvignon-based wines in the region. Aurore de Dauzac captures this signature style with approachability and polish in its youth.
The vineyards sit on classic Garonne gravel soils over sandy-clay sublayers-ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon, which thrives in well-drained conditions. These soils help produce wines with structure, finesse, and lifted aromatics, while Merlot planted in slightly cooler parcels contributes roundness and depth.
Aurore de Dauzac is crafted from carefully selected parcels, vinified with the same attention to detail as the Grand Vin. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, followed by aging in French oak barrels to enhance texture and complexity while preserving fresh fruit character.
The excellent 2022 vintage shines through in the purity of the perfectly ripened fruit and floral lift. Silky tannins and balanced acidity make this incredibly drinkable now, yet structured enough to evolve over the next several years.
At just $25.99, this is an exceptional opportunity to experience Margaux pedigree at the lowest price in the country. The quality-to-price ratio here is impressive-this is serious Bordeaux that drinks well above its price point.
There is only a limited amount available, when it's gone its gone!
JAMES SUCKLING 94 POINTS - "A year in which Dauzac excelled! Both Aurore de Dauzac and Labastide Dauzac are showing really well. Aurore is a bit deeper and structured with bright black fruit, berries, fine spices and crushed stones. Dusty tannins crumble nicely on the palate with full body and a long, powdery finish. Lots of energy. Already approachable thanks to its initial balance and the fine quality of tannins, but it will improve with more complexity in two to three years. Keep an eye on this."
