Philippe and Pierre Aubry run their family estate in the Premier Cru village of Jouy-lès-Reims, located in the western part of the Montagne de Reims. Philippe's son Max joined his father and uncle at the domain in 2020 and is poised to carry on the legacy of his father and uncle. Over the next five years, Max will take on an increasing role in winemaking and viticulture, transitioning fully to organics. The soils in this part of the Petite Montagne are unique, with a high proportion of fossil-bearing limestone, which gives lift and high acidity to the wines. This brut is an assemblage of 60% 2020 vintage with 40% reserve wines dating back to 1998. It is a complex cuvée of 40% Chardonnay, 35% Pinot Noir, 20% Meunier, topped off with 5% mix of Arbanne, Petit Meslier and Fromenteau. The wine was fermented (with full malo) in stainless steel with a portion of the Chardonnay aged in used barrique.
JAMES SUCKLING 92 POINTS-"A smooth, gently round and nicely balanced Champagne dominant in pinot meunier, pinot noir and chardonnay to boot. It has attractive lemon citrus flavors and is really punchy, refined and gently nutty. A smooth, pastry-like texture comes to the fore on the finish. Drink now."
