Born from a shared reverence for Bundy and the enduring vision of the late mark Tarlov, this project brings together winemaker Felipe Ramirez, soil scientist Pedro Parra, and Jean-Marc Rulot to fraft Chardonnay in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Guided by years of terroir study and the belief that mineral-driven, high-acid Chardonnay could thrive in fractured basalt and sedimentary soils, the collaboration honors Tarlov's legacy with precision and grace. An elegant expression of place, memory, and persistence.
Le Basalt hails from a small vineyard nestled in the Eola-Amity Hills, where vines root themselves in a thin layer of silty red clay over fractured basalt. Just 35 centimeters (14 inches) of topsoil give way to nearly pure, ancient volcanic rock — dense, mineral rich, and deeply broken — allowing roots to delve far into the earth in search of water and nourishment. The result is a wine shaped by tension, depth, and the raw energy of stone. Only 200 cases produced!
