The first-ever barrel-aged chile liqueur, from Casa Lumbre Spirits of Puebla, Mexico — co-founded by Ivan Saldaña and now part of the Campari Group. The journey begins with the finest poblano chiles, grown in the volcanic soil of Puebla, harvested and sun-dried for 15-20 days to become ancho chiles, then carefully selected and meticulously hand-cut before maceration in neutral cane spirit from Veracruz. The resulting infusion is then aged for two years in ex-bourbon American white oak casks — a full maturation rather than a mere finish — imparting a depth of flavor and complexity the original expression never had.
Nose: Deeply smoky vegetal tones with light caramel sweetness, traces of allspice-like spiciness, chocolate-covered orange, and a black-tea maltiness.
Palate: Thick, satiny smooth — an initial rush of peppery spice and dark dried fruit, with peppercorns, honey lozenges, malt syrup, raisins, and orange zest; modest chile heat when sipped neat.
Finish: A gentle but persistent chile prickle settling into the back of the throat — richness balanced by spice.
Serve: Neat or on the rocks to savor the barrel-aged chile character; in a smoky-spicy Old Fashioned, a Manhattan variation, or a Margarita; or alongside dark chocolate as an alternative digestif.
ABV: 40% (80 Proof)
