Behind a shimmering golden colour, the first nose reveals a perfectly ripe fruit, as if it had just been picked from the tree: one thinks of Comice pear, white peach and vine peach, then Granny or Reinette apple. Notes of orange blossom and honeysuckle, as well as a touch of roasted hazelnut, precede the expression of the soil, a subtle, almost tender expression without any harshness. One thinks of pebbles or polished marble, of damp chalk. With prolonged aeration, sensuality gains ground, with irresistible evocations of custard, sweet spices, cinnamon and vanilla, beurre manié and acacia honey. The charm operates from start to finish.
In the opening of the palate, with a fluid and silky touch, we find this gourmet proposal evoking stewed apples and pears, brioche and almond biscuit. The candied citrus flavors, with their fine bitterness, energize the mid-palate and stimulate our taste buds. We think of kumquat, an English marmalade with orange but also grapefruit skin. Then, an intense spicy current takes over and prolongs the feeling of energy and strength that the wine gives off. Sichuan berry, green pepper and liquorice stick elbow each other to make us salivate. On a long and taut finish, we find this empyreumatic impregnation typical of the finage of Chassagne-Montrachet. The balance is just perfect!
