This benchmark Barolo is made from one of the prime vineyard area around the Cicala hill, in the Bussia Soprana district of Monforte d'Alba. Powerful and earthy, with the taming of new oak barrels for aging, Aldo Conterno's wines maintain a tension between the traditional and the modern.

The finish is beautiful, long and chalky, and you don't get as much alcohol in the Cicala (compared to Romirasco). The fruit is dried and streamlined, and this wine does show good promise for aging. The tannins are beautiful, coating your teeth and palate with no bitter edge."
