Owner/winemaker/sole employee Rebecca George grew up in eastern California's Mojave Desert and spent much of her adolescence exploring petroglyph-lined canyons and trekking through wildflower-dense landscapes. Though there wasn't an agricultural presence in the high desert, these adventures instilled in her a lifelong appreciation for both the outdoors and the biological sciences. In short, her time in the Mojave helped shape who she is today and the things she enjoys most.

Rebecca has spent time interning and working for some of the more extroaordinary wine producers in the world, including Meo-Camuzet, Marcassin, Williams-Selyem, and Schramsberg. Today, she is the full-time winemaker for Kelly Fleming in Calistoga.

Monument Tree was planted in 1999, has north-eastern sloping exposure, and soils that are a mix of loamy clay and decomposed sandstone. It sits about 10 miles as the crow flies from the Mendocino coast. Altogether these factors yield the style of cool climate Pinot that Becky adores: earthy, almost herbaceous notes that complement a fruity core of bright, bing cherry and wild blackberry.

ANTONIO GALLONI 93 POINTS - "Rebecca George is the fulltime winemaker at Kelly Fleming and also makes a small amount of Anderson Valley Pinot for her Mojave label. I was super-impressed with both the 2015 and 2016. The wines are done in a delicate style that is enhanced through the inclusion of around 20% whole clusters. Readers who can find the wines should snap them up. Sadly, production is just 50 cases a year for the 2015 and around 100 for the 2016."

"The 2016 Pinot Noir Monument Tree is laced with attractive scents of dark cherry, lavender and spice. A dollop (20%) of whole clusters enhances the wine's aromatics and overall freshness. The 2016 is a bit darker and more layered than the 2015 because of greater clonal diversity that winemaker Rebecca George had access to. I can't wait to taste it from bottle."
