Our pick for November's Wine of the Month is a top value wine from France. It's hard to find a Pinot Noir this good for how low the price is... anywhere. Pinot Noir grapes can be notoriously fickle and tough to work with-it is literally thin skinned and requires gentle handling and attention. So, when we find a traditional, properly-made French Pinot Noir for under $10 that tastes as good as this one does, we jump on it! The QPR (quality-to-price ratio) is off the charts on La Touchere!!
Some of France's greatest values can be found in the Pays d'Oc area of France within the Languedoc-Roussillon wine region. Fortunately, the vineyard work shows great care and the winemaker displayed a gentle touch in the cellar. This allows the delicacy and aromatics we love from Pinot Noir to express themselves.
The nose is loaded with a mélange of mixed red fruits: fresh cherries, raspberries and redcurrant notes. Elements of spice and savory notes of rosebush and cocoa help delineate and define more clearly the gorgeous fruit flavors-- the lovely contrast between ripe and savory really compels the fruit to shine on even brighter. The palate starts with soft viscosity and flavors reiterating the scents we just enjoyed. Mixed red fruits are joined by touches of cocoa, minerality, earth and spice. The body, appropriate acidity and gentle tannins, keeps the wine light on its feet and balances all the flavor components. While this is a natural for any holiday, gathering or occasion, there's something about a sleek, sensuous Pinot Noir to sip on while enjoying a traditional turkey plate with all the fixings! Bring on the Holidays!
