50% Sangiovese, 50% Merlot
This is the Estate's "Grand Vin", it is the winery's standard-bearer; indeed, it bears the estate's name. It is grown in its name-sake Bertinga vineyard and into it go the noblest clusters of Sangiovese and Merlot; conceptually a 50-50 blend but the cuvée naturally varies from vintage to vintage. Sangiovese ferments in concrete tanks and matures for 18 months in 2500L Austrian oak barrels; Merlot ferments in stainless-steel vats and matures in French oak barriques (10%new) for the same time. The wine is released after at least 18 more months after bottling. It is the quintessential Super Tuscan, full bodied and powerfully elegant with a great aging potential.
