AUSTRALIA

The Australian wine industry is the world's fourth largest exporter of wine with approximately 750 million litres a year to the international export market with only about 40% of production consumed domestically. Wine is produced in every state, with more than 60 designated wine regions totaling approximately 160,000 hectares; however Australia's wine regions are mainly in the southern, cooler parts of the country, with vineyards located in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland. The wine regions in each of these states produce different wine varieties and styles that take advantage of the particular terroir such as: climatic differences, topography and soil types. With the major varieties being predominantly Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Semillon, Pinot noir, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc. Wines are often labeled with the name of their grape variety, which must constitute at least 85 percent of the wine.

    Bottle Size: 750ml
WINE SPECTATOR 92 POINTS "Complex and aromatic, with spice, fresh earth, cream soda and black walnut flavors that are rich and polished, giving way to succulent plum and cassis elements. Black pepper and Earl Grey tea grace notes linger effortlessly on the finish. Drink now through 2029. 1,500 cases made, 500 cases imported. — MW"

WINE ENTHUSIAST 90 POINTS "This historic Hunter Valley winery [Tyrrell's] also owns vineyards further afield, and this Shiraz is from Heathcote in Central Victoria, though it still wears the Tyrrell's crown. After a little swirling in the glass, it unveils aromas of plump blueberry, plum, mocha, licorice and florals. Medium to full bodied, it offers an intricate play between texture and acidity, juicy fruit and taut, sandy tannins, hinting at stony minerality. There's an old-fashioned feel about this wine. It's comfortable in its own skin and doesn't try too hard to be modern. Christina Pickard"

Established in 1858 by English immigrant Edward Tyrrell, Tyrrell’s Wines is one of Australia’s pre-eminent family owned wine companies. 1864 was their first vintage. They now have vineyards extending from their historic home in the Hunter Valley NSW (near Sydney) to their Heathcote vineyards in Victoria (north of Melbourne. Headed up by fourth generation family member Bruce Tyrrell, Tyrrell's is home to some of Australia's most awarded wines. The Rufus Stone Shiraz is named for the historical marker in England that commemorates the death of King William II, said to be due to an "errant" arrow fired by a Tyrrell.

  5. TYRRELL'S 2018 SEMILLON HUNTER VALLEY

    Item #: i_381437
    Bottle Size: 750ml
    Wine Spectator: 90
    Wine Enthusiast: 94 Points
WINE ENTHUSIAST 94 POINTS - "This historic winery is a benchmark for the inimitable style of Semillon the Hunter Valley's warm and humid conditions are famed for. This current vintage is an open and delicate drop that ripples with honey-flecked fruit, beeswax and dried herbs. The juicy fruit and acidity prickle amid a talc-like texture that flows through to a long, refreshing finish. Drink now–2028."

WINE SPECTATOR 90 POINTS - "Distinctive and refreshing, featuring bright, crisp lemony flavors, with undercurrents of lanolin and saline. Offers a supple frame and an impressive finish."

Sourced from a small selection of our favourite Semillon blocks, the grapes were both hand and machine picked before gentle pressing and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The wine then spent a few months on yeast lees to gain extra complexity and mouth feel.

A lifted nose showing citrus freshness, the palate continues with fresh citrus and concentrated grapefruit flavours. The palate is light to medium bodied with a perfect balance of fruit and soft acid. In a vintage of this quality, all of our Semillon ended up with an “A” grade and we are incredibly pleased with the release of this Hunter Valley Semillon, easily our best yet.

  6. WINNERS TANK 2017 SYRAH

    Item #: i_383505
    Bottle Size: 750ml
Ripe and soft, this is a great everyday Syrah with a winning combination of generous character and freshness. WINEMAKER NOTES - "The fragrant nose offers abundant dark fruits with hints of cut flowers, clove, black pepper, and anise. The palate is full bodied with a plush mouth-feel, dark fruits, smooth tannins..."

"Winner’s Tank is a new venture between Reid Bosward of Kaesler vineyards, and David and Cathy Knight, owners of the Winner’s Tank site. The name relates to an old water tank that sits in the corner of the vineyard. In true Aussie spirit, a strong rivalry exists between the three neighboring towns in the local Australian Rules Football competition. Each year the winning team heads out to the vineyard to paint the tank in their team colors."

  7. YALUMBA 2013 TRIANGLE BLOCK SHIRAZ/VIOGNIER

    Item #: i_378585
    Bottle Size: 750ml
This is a great introduction to Eden Valley reds: a cooler area bordering the famous, very warm Barossa Valley. Yalumba is a name to learn if you haven't already; they were founded in the mid 1800s and have a solid line of different styles for different occasions and palates.

WINE & SPIRITS MAGAZINE 93 POINTS - "A modern take on an old-fashioned style of Eden Valley shiraz, this is bold in flavor but not at all massive—more about stamina and grace than density and weight. Its flavors of red currants, jasmine and tar have forthright power, a zesty blast of shiraz spice that leaves a clean, fresh taste in its wake. This performs far above its price, a wine to buy by the case and enjoy this winter into spring."

  8. YALUMBA 2017 VIOGNIER EDEN VALLEY

    Item #: i_377276
    Bottle Size: 750ml
    Wine Advocate: 91
WINE ADVOCATE 91 POINTS - "A blend of six vineyards, the 2017 Samuel's Collection Viognier boasts extravagant floral and apricot aromas that leap from the glass. It's a blend of barrel-fermented (in old hogsheads) and steel-fermented components that have a slightly creamy texture and layers of opulent fruit. It's a rich wine, but with sufficient balancing acidity to keep it refreshing and clean on the long finish. It should provide immense pleasure over the next few years."

In our opinion, this Viognier in particular has become the standard by which we judge all others at the surrounding price points. This wine is fermented entirely with indigenous yeasts which maintains complexity and layers of flavor. This is a delicate and aromatic Viognier wine. The color is pale gold with green highlights, with a nose of pure aromas displaying apricot nectar, lifted honeysuckle and orange oil perfume. The particularly white peach and apricot flavours, finishing with an aromatic citrus freshness. This wine will continue to grow and develop in the bottle, firstly showing enhanced apricots and spice, then after a couple of years, honey flavors and toast.

Vibrant raspberries, cherries and red plums flood the nose and palate and the chassis of fruit-tannin is sleekly cut. Fresh, juicy resolve."

  10. YALUMBA NV "MUSEUM" MUSCAT, VICTORIA 375ML

    Item #: i_377482
    Bottle Size: 375ml
**Please note, this is a half sized bottle
This wine is sweet, luscious, and almost as brown as a Coca-Cola. Museum Muscat is a perfect introduction to the fortified dessert wines Australians call "stickies." The natural sweetness of the wine mellows over time as it ages in cask for a minimum of seven years. This oxidizing treatment turns the flavor spectrum towards fig, toffee, pecans, and ginger. Since Museum Muscat is a non-vintage product, it has been reviewed many times by Robert Parker and his team at Wine Advocate, but it has never scored less than 92 points and has rated as high 96 and 98 points. Perfect for a rich cheese course at the end of meal or decadent crème-brulée
