Medium to full-bodied, concentrated and ripe with notable tannin, it offers beautiful notes of blackberry, shitake mushrooms, licorice and pepper meats. It plays in the 2014 vintage’s forward, supple nature, but has real depth and concentration. I don’t think it will be the longest lived Beaucastel, but it will have 15-20 years of overall longevity."

On the palate, lots of roundness, with soft refined tannins. Finish is long, with notes of black cherry, black berry, and a silky texture. A feeling of youth and freshness emerges. A wine with great cellaring potential and with an impressive aromatic expression. Pairs well with most red meat dishes, particularly beef and lamb, or game dishes such as wild boar. An ideal accompaniment to winter casseroles – a cassoulet of duck confit with hearty and complex flavors is a terrific choice. Beef bourguignon is an equally nice pairing.

ROBERT PARKER 93 POINTS - "A blend of 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah and a splash of Carignan, the 2014 Cotes Catalanes Grenache D66 IGP spent ten months in roughly 30% new barrels. This inky colored, downright sexy 2014 offers terrific notes of blueberries, blackberries, violets and chalky minerality. Big, concentrated and textured, yet still playing in the more elegant style of the 2014 vintage, this beauty will drink well for a decade."

This has plenty in reserve, though the long, juicy finish lets everything play out, leaving a light sanguine echo at the very end. Should age well. Best from 2017 through 2029."
