    The Hudson Vineyard was planted upon beds of Haire loam soil back in the 1980s by a Texas expat by the name of Lee Hudson. Located at the southern tip of the Mayacamas Mountain range, the vineyard is 20 miles north of the San Pablo Bay exposing it to the classically Napa diurnal shift of foggy morning and extremely warm afternoons. The wines undergo native yeast fermentation before aging for 11 months in a combination of roughly 15% new French oak and 20% concrete egg.

    After nearly 25 years of experience producing Chardonnay for other wineries, Greg now produces his own version of this classic California Chardonnay under his own label. The fruit comes from the Sangiacomo Family Vineyards just south of the town of Sonoma in the Carneros area, which provides ideal soils and climate. The Sangiacomos have been sustainably farming for three generations, providing quality grapes for numerous wineries since the late 1960s.

    The fruit was selected from older established blocks. Each block was separately hand-harvested, pressed in a basket press, and then fermented in one third each new barrels, one-year barrels and older barrels in a cold (50º F) storage area. After primary fermentation the wine was inoculated for a second, malolactic fermentation and aged on its lees for nearly nine months, with the yeast lees gently stirred bi-weekly.

    Winery's Notes: "The fruit for this Chardonnay was grown primarily on our Stanly Ranch Estate Vineyard in Carneros with some select lots from the Hyde and Poe Vineyards blended in. These vineyards' proximity to the San Pablo Bay keeps them at a cool temperature and brings cool climate characteristics to the wine, most notably a crisp freshness. Each vineyard was picked and pressed separately. After pressing, the juices were allowed to settle naturally overnight and were then put into French oak barrels. Fermentation started naturally and lasted for six months. Native malolactic fermentation occurred during this time as well. The wine spent 12 months in 30% new French oak barrels. One month prior to bottling, each lot of wine was racked and then blended to prepare for bottling."

    "The goal for this wine is finesse and complexity which is enhanced by using long, slow, native fermentations. From the Napa side of Carneros, this Chardonnay is a beautiful golden color. The nose opens up with some roasted almonds and then evolves to floral and fruit notes including bergamot, pineapple, ripe peaches and citrus. In the mouth, the entry is very round and fresh with plenty of fruit flavors. The acidity is very soft, and guided by the minerality, balance and a lingering finish."
