This one-of-a-kind wine was meticulously selected to give a sense of place from the Monastery Block in Robert Mondavi Winery's estate To Kalon Vineyard. The block lies against the Mayacamas Mountains on the Oakville Bench. The composition of the soil is gravelly clay loam, allowing deep rooting; it is a well-drained and low-fertility soil. The vineyard has high-density spacing (4' x 4') and the vines are perfectly balanced. Every vintage, this block is part of the winery's Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. They selected one barrel of this lot for its harmonious personality - it shows power with elegance and intensity with finesse. As Mr. Mondavi liked to remind all of us, "Great wines come from great vineyards!"
